Description

The first flight by Tony Jannus across Tampa Bay occurred on January 1, 1914. At that time, the fare was $5.00 with flights leaving St. Petersburg at 10:00 am and 2:00 pm and departing Tampa at 11:00 am and 3:00 pm. A replica of Jannus’s plane, which was flown across Tampa Bay on the 75th anniversary of his inaugural flight is now on display at the St. Petersburg Museum of History. The Tony Jannus Award is a Tampa based foundation annually recognizing individuals for “extraordinary accomplishments in the field of commercial aviation.” Also, the concert venue in St. Petersburg, formerly known as Jannus Landing but recently renamed to Jannus Live was named after Tony Jannus.
